By Donna Green

In every country, there is always going to be some form of combat style that would somehow represent the culture of the country. For instance, China has its own form of combat, Thailand has its own, Philippines has its own and even Greece. Of course, as civilization began to grow, so did these fighting arts because some styles were already deemed as impractical. For those who want to learn the more practical styles, here are some of the most practical martial arts los angeles.

The first up on the list is the bone crushing fighting style from Thailand, Muay Thai. Muay Thai is really known in MMA circles because it is practical and deals a lot of damage to the opponent. Muay Thay makes use not only of punches and kicks but also of high damage elbows and crushing knee attacks.

For a more street effective type of art, there is Wing Chun, a classic street fighting art. Wing Chun was often used for street fights wherein one would want to finish off his opponent very fast. As it relies more on leverage and speed, it is an ideal combat style for those who don't have bulging muscles or a big body frame.

One of the offspring of Wing Chun is the well known Jeet Kune Do created by the famous martial artist Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee started out as a Wing Chun practitioner but then realized the flaws that came with the art such as the form based movement. Adding elements of boxing, Wing Chun, and other arts, Lee created a principle of martial arts that is quick, strong, and deadly.

For those who are worried that they might get swept down and taken to the ground, they may want to check out Jiu Jitsu. Jiu Jitsu is a Japanese ground fighting style that teaches moves one can do even while lying on his back. It is known for its practicality and swift finishers. In fact, Jiu Jitsu has been a main component of many MMA stars.

Another street fighting type of style would be Arnis. Arnis is a stick fighting style that also has elements for knife fighting and empty hand combat. Hailing from the Philippines, Arnis has been a very popular fighting art for those who are interested in a practical weapon style.

The last style on the list is Krav Maga which is more of a military style that hails from Israel. This Israeli style is mostly used by the Jewish military as their primary form of hand to hand combat. It makes use of a lot of practical moves designed to kill or incapacitate.

If one is interested in the more practical arts that can be used for fighting in the streets for for defending against an assailant, these are the ones to look out for and join. Unlike most other combat styles that make use of exaggerated and big movements, these ones use simple ones that actually work. If one would practice these moves consistently, one will be able to use it anytime he thinks he is threatened.
