The Curriculum Of Self Defense Classes Dallas

By Larry Patterson

Self defense is arguably one of the most important things that one has to learn because mugging or rape cases are extremely common. While learning how to fight will not completely guarantee the safety of a person, it increases the chances of not getting killed, beaten up, or raped. So for those who are curious, here are a few things that one will learn from self defense classes Dallas.

For those who want to learn how to fight, there are three areas that most lessons would tackle being hand to hand, armed fighting, and ground fighting. By learning these three, one will be able to know just how to protect him or herself in dangerous situations. The first thing to learn would be to defend against unarmed attacks like strikes and locks.

When one would get attacked on the street by a drunk person or a person on drugs, the attacker would usually just charge forward with a flurry of punches, slaps, and pretty much anything to hit the defender. As the defender, one has to learn how to parry these attacks and either make the attacker trip down or get the attacker in a lock. One will most likely learn how to use the boxing guard for defending and rush in for a counter.

If the attacker is probably a more experienced mugger, then the attacker can grapple or lock the defender. When this happens, the defender must learn how to perform a counter submission to get out of the lock or grapple and run away. Students will learn basic lock counters and attacks for most common street attacks like the double choke or the cobra clutch.

Now, a large percentage of attacks end up on the ground, especially during the cases of rape. Fortunately though, there is a combat form known as Jiu Jitsu which teaches attacks that can be used while lying on the back. Most classes teach basic jiu jitsu techniques aimed at breaking the arms and legs of the assailant while the defender is on the ground.

Lastly, there are weapon attacks such as knife attacks or baton attacks. Now, these kinds of attacks are more dangerous because weapons can actually kill people. That is why students will be taught how to deflect, parry, and take damage from weapons without getting killed in the process.

Now, a lot of students would ask about defending about guns. Yes, one can defend against guns through gun disarming if one is in the correct range. This usually involves short grappling moves to push the gun at another direction away from the assailant. This is usually taught to police but is rather risky to do.

For those who are interested to take up some combat lessons, here are the things one will learn. Most importantly though, one will learn how to sharpen his or her mind in order to deal with the most dangerous situations the best way possible. If one has a strong mind and the right techniques at hand, he or she can keep him or herself safe while walking the streets at night.
